Ethics and Compliance
We seek to maintain a culture of ethical behaviour and compliance throughout Glencore, rather than merely respecting the minimum required by laws and regulations.
We do not knowingly assist any third party in breaking the law, nor do we participate in criminal, fraudulent or corrupt practices in any country.
Our ethics and compliance program encompasses risk assessments, policies and procedures, training and awareness, monitoring, open speaking and investigations. We work with experts to ensure that our program aligns with international best practices, and follow the relevant authorities’ guidelines. All employees, directors and officers (as well as subcontractors, if applicable) must comply with our relevant policies and procedures as well as with the law. When we form joint ventures that we do not operate, we encourage our partners to adopt policies and procedures similar to ours.
Our leaders are responsible for creating a culture that encourages ethical behaviour. One of our values is integrity, meaning that we have the courage to do the right thing throughout the company – even when it is difficult.
The effective management of this global program would not be possible without qualified compliance professionals. Full-time qualified compliance officers from our corporate compliance team define the program and provide dedicated compliance support. Our Regional Compliance Officers implement the program in specific geographic jurisdictions. They also provide advice to the company and to the Compliance Coordinators working in our offices and industrial assets around the world. Our Compliance Coordinators assist employees who need advice on ethical and legal behaviour or policy implementation.
