Local entrepreneurship

A significant share of Glencore’s procurement comes from local suppliers in the DRC. This is not only reflected in a market share in KCC an MUMI’s purchasing portfolio, but above all in the management and development programmes of these suppliers or contractors, which aims to increase their power and capacity building in order to ensure a profitable business beyond Glencore operations or the DRC mining sector.

The main sectors of activity covered by local procurement are:

  • Purchases of reagents
  • Cleaning services
  • Incoming and outgoing transportation
  • Drilling operations
  • Catering services
  • Repairs and maintenance (RNM)

Between 2020 and 2021, KCC’s local supply share increased from 25% to 40%, representing a turnover of over USD 40 million.
