Our mining activity

Our mining operations

Based on its direction, dip, strength, grades and quantities of recoverable minerals and stability, the Mutanda deposit has a remaining mine life of twenty-five years and contains three open pits.

MUMI owns, operates and develops the following mining assets

The Central open pit mine (Central)

The Central North-West open pit main area (CNW)

The East open pit main area (East)

The remaining area of the Central open pit

We mine using fundamental techniques such as fragmentation (drilling and mining), marinating, stockpiling, associated servicing, dewatering, reclamation of haul roads, etc.; followed by processing stages: crushing, grinding and operational transport, leaching and solid/liquid separation, solvent extraction and electroplating.

We also operate an acid plant, cobalt plant, tailings leach unit (CTU4), gravimetric concentration unit (DMS), tailings storage ponds (TSF) and heap leaching facilities.

Given our gradual transition from oxide to sulphide mining, we plan to build sulphide processing facilities.
