Glencore operates two industrial assets producing copper and cobalt in the DRC: Kamoto Copper Company SA (KCC) – a partnership with the Gécamines – and Mutanda Mining SARL (MUMI) – a partnership with the DRC government– both located in Kolwezi, in the Lualaba Province.
Kamoto Copper Company (KCC)
KCC was established in 2008 through the merger of Nikanor’s DRC Copper Project and Katanga Mining’s Kamoto Operating Limited. In 2013, Glencore acquired a 75% stake in the business.
Mutanda Mining (MUMI)
Located on high grade containing ore deposits, Mutanda Mining (MUMI) is an integrated producer of copper and cobalt located in the Lualaba region of the DRC. Mutanda Mining is currently fully owned by Glencore, with the DRC government preparing to take a stake in the asset.
